When I start explaining to a person what the profession of boudoir photographer consists of, my (mostly male) friends almost always reply with offers to accompany me to my next session as an assistant, about how lucky it is to be able to see women in their underwear, and how jealous they are about my dream job....
Of course, these people are not usually photographers, nor have they stopped to think a bit about how the sessions are carried out or all the work involved. Their minds are running at full speed, thinking of something that is far from the reality of what actually goes on at a photoshoot
The truth is that yes - I am lucky: Lucky to be able to make a woman proud of her body; to give their self-esteem a boost; and to be able to remind her that she is an attractive woman. And to capture the moment with a photographic memory that she will enjoy for many years to come.
I am a photographer - male - and it is clear that I will never feel the same social pressures and judgements that women have to endure on a daily basis.
However, I am also a husband and father of teenage daughters: I see first-hand how the culture around us negatively affects the women of my life.
Through boudoir photography, my main objective is to help the woman in front of my camera experience a transformative experience so that she leaves her session with a better perception of herself.
Do I really use boudoir photography to see women in their underwear?
Of course not! There are far easier ways to see women in lingerie - But to really have a positive effect on someone's life, there are few. Mine is through the boudoir photography sessions.
